About Colleen Dalton

Colleen Dalton received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in 1996, and her Juris Doctorate from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2005.  Her ground-breaking article, "The Sexual Assault Crisis in the United States Air Force Academy," was published by The Cardozo Women's Law Journal in 2004, and continues to be cited by numerous scholarly publications, including in recent testimony before the United States House of Representatives Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs.

Before moving to Asheville, North Carolina in 2015, Colleen Dalton served as the Senior Associate for the litigation division of Hartman & Craven LLP (now, Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP), a mid-sized firm in New York City.  Her experience there included, but was not limited to, all phases of litigation and appellate work involving complex commercial contract disputes, federal securities and commodities litigation and arbitration, corporate control and dissolution, employment contract and discrimination claims, intellectual property issues, real property disputes, and trusts and estates.  

Since relocating to North Carolina, Ms. Dalton has garnered significant additional experience in a wide range of legal fields, including bankruptcy law, business entity formation, small and mid-sized business services, not-for-profit organizational documents and state and federal status applications, entertainment law, artists' visas and other immigration petitions, contract drafting, negotiation and review, intellectual property registration and enforcement, and alternative dispute resolution, with a particular focus on facilitative mediation.

Aside from her substantive legal expertise, Ms. Dalton's experience has also instilled in her the conviction to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, treating all clients with the respect and attention they deserve, and consistently providing expeditious, quality services.

Colleen Dalton is admitted to practice in the States of New York and Ohio, and in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.

Ms. Dalton is married to Christian Howes, an international jazz violin superstar.  She is stepmother to Camille, a twenty-year-old jazz violin superstar, and mother to Dalton, an eight-year-old intergalactic guardian of peace and justice.  In her spare time, Ms. Dalton enjoys reading, traveling, and adventure sports.
